Fully agree Keshav. But history has not been so kind to people like us who repose blind faith in our mortals who have feet of clay. Dravid has been gentlemanly and so had been Azharuddin and Cronje. So to give this mater a decent burial, we should demand from the cricketers that they make their contracts public. Ofcourse by blackening out the money part. And yes, Captains prerogative is granted provided there is no conflict.

Anyway, my thinking is certainly far fetched because I am still ready to give Dravid and others my complete though uncomfortable faith.

Hi MRM,
I agree 100% that Sehwag is nothing but a passenger. His 'bowling' is no reason to take him to the West Indies. Powar would have been a much better choice. Actually, even if you forget Sehwag's recent failures in the one-day format, he has a pathetic average in one-dayers throughout. It's weird, given his strike-rate in test matches, but there it is.

The other theory about group endorsements and the related bonus sounds very far-fetched to me. For one, nothing Dravid has done or said in his entire 11 years of international cricket can make one believe it. If anything, I'd blame Dravid for being too much of a gentleman. Maybe this is his first instance of assertive behaviour. Maybe he knows more about Sehwag than you, me or the millions of couch-experts...

Let's give him not only the benefit of doubt, but also the Captain's prerogative of demanding the team he wants. After all, its his neck on the line if the "Sultan of Multan" turns out to be just "Multani Mitti"...

cheers,

Keshav

s'cat, as i wrote, my blog is an exercise in imagination. Even I feel that Dravid wont do something like this. But who would have thought that Hansie Cronje would fix matches for money? Or that Azhar and Jadeja might be remotely connected with it. Hence some loud thinking from my side. But the scenario which I have pointed out is very very realistic and these kinds of caveats and clauses are known to be there in other kinds of contracts.
Like all other eternal optimists, I too live on the hope!

Hey MRM,

While i completely agree with fact that Sehwag's inclusion baffled us quite a bit, and DRavid'd insistense on the sameeven more so, I am not too sure if Dravid is the kind of a guy who would do such a thing only to bulge up his purse..
I think he is only being exceedingly optimistic and hopeful....

Of course, all these contracts absolutely merit public scrutiny..
And i hope to see the day when the selection committee meeting is telecast live!!

The only logic that i can see behind Sehwag's inclusion is that, Dravid (and the wise men at BCCI's Helm) hope against all hopes that he fires in this world cup, cos that might just be the difference between winning and losing a cup. He was the highest scorer in our last trip to the windies, a quickfire 70 -80 odd at the start  is enough to win us a match against any opposition. Whether he will be able to do it, and do it consistently, is another question, but like all mad Indian cricket fans, we can only hope...

MrMulliner,

superb. What analysis, mindblowing. No big deal that what u say is true in fact.

I dont know why sehwag is being kept in the team and given so many chances, and one place is wasted bcs of him, when we have uttapa,Gautam Gambhir, and so many  others waiting in the wings.

Suspicious.Regards.kamal
